Visit Uptown

At the heart of Greenwood’s charm is Uptown, where walkable streets are lined with shops, galleries and local eateries. It’s the place to find family fun and many of the county’s most memorable festivals, including the famous South Carolina Festival of Flowers and its whimsical topiaries. The cultural district of Uptown is home to art, history and theater.

Uptown Is a Study in Charm

There’s always something happening Uptown. Greenwood’s lovingly restored buildings show off locally owned restaurants, shops and galleries. Year-round events keep people coming back to enjoy this area of walkable streets, charming historic architecture and character.

The covered, open-air Uptown Market houses one of Greenwood’s farmer’s markets, community events, and a splash pad for the kids. Evocative of the Seaboard Passenger station that once stood in the heart of Greenwood, the large brick pavilion is the place to shop local and meet the farmers, crafters, bakers and makers who showcase their wares.

Uptown Greenwood’s cultural district includes restored buildings from the turn of the 20th century. An anchor of the district is the beautifully renovated Arts Center, with 25,000 square feet of bright, airy space to showcase its permanent collection as well as regional and touring exhibits.

The Greenwood Museum features rotating exhibits, as well as permanent displays that include a 1900s Main Street, the Carolina Cave, an extensive gem and mineral collection, and the “Epic Journeys” of animal migrations. The third key cultural site is the Greenwood Community Theatre.

Stroll through Uptown’s pollinator gardens on the way to browse for local art and fine crafts at Main and Maxwell or for gifts, clothing and accessories at the many locally owned boutiques. Take time to visit Uptown Shoppers Market, a 12,000-square-foot mall with an eclectic mix of antiques, jewelry and gifts.

One of the gems of Uptown Greenwood is the Inn on the Square, renovated to preserve the original architecture and historic integrity.

Enjoy live music, chef-owned restaurants and special events throughout the year. And don’t forget the festivals. Some of South Carolina’s most popular events happen in Uptown, including the famous SC Festival of Flowers with amazing topiaries transforming the streets into homes for wild animals, dinosaurs and mermaids. Add to the fun Festival of Discovery and Blues Cruise, Jingle and Mingle holiday events and concerts, and you’ll always be entertained Uptown.
